Safety Trainer: Stress Management

Do you ever feel overwhelmed and just can’t seem to get it together? Maybe you have sessions of restlessness that result in angry outbursts, overeating, headaches on a regular basis, or short periods of sadness which greatly affects your focus. If you have any of these symptoms, it’s very possible that you are being affected by stress. Your stress may be coming from work, home, or it may just be weather related but no matter the source, you need to identify ways you can manage that stress factor. There are so many small things you can do to greatly reduce your stress level and get back on track while maintaining it.

  • Try to manage your time well and prioritize your tasks and commitments

  • Practice deep breathing

  • Exercise regularly

  • Always ensure that you get plenty of rest each night

  • Eat a healthy diet

  • Avoid the use of tobacco products

  • Avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol use

  • Avoid illegal substances

Safety Tips

Portable heaters are a good source of heat during harsh winter days and nights, but they can also be dangerous if not used properly. Here are just a few tips to keep you, your coworkers, and your family safe while using portable heaters this winter.

·        When purchasing a heater, make sure it is approved and has undergone laboratory testing

·        Always place it on a level surface

·        Make sure the power cord is away from normal traffic, and is NOT a trip hazard

·        Never leave a portable heater unattended

·        Turn off and unplug if leaving the house or area

·        Be sure to properly ventilate the heater, especially if using a fuel-burning type

·        Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors if using in an interior room or space

·       Do not use the heater near flammable materials (paper, wood debris, cardboard, curtains)

It is important to follow all safety precautions listed in the owner’s manual when you purchase a heater. Be safe during the winter months!
