Murphy Family Ventures has come a long way from our humble beginnings in a little place just outside of Rose Hill, NC. In 1962, the Register Mill shelled its first load of corn, which was processed and sold to local farmers as feed for their animals. The Murphy family invested more than blood, sweat, and tears into the business, which began to grow as we began breeding hogs on open lots behind the mill. Eventually, the decision was made to contract the raising of the hogs in confined housing out to individuals in the surrounding populace. It is that sense of community that caused our endeavors to ignite and flourish.
As times changed, we saw the need to diversify our enterprise, resulting in the start of the Duplin Land Development. In 2000, we sold the family business to Smithfield Foods. While we remained contract growers, we no longer had the resources in place to manage our expanding farms.
The development of our private community River Landing continued to grow and prosper. In order to maintain the continual growth of our business, we realized the need to develop a system in which we could manage all aspects of the varied undertakings that we came to rely on as our livelihood.
Murphy Family Ventures opened for business in December 2004 as a management company providing an array of support services to businesses owned by the Murphy Family and others.
Murphy Family Ventures is comprised of eight divisions: Golf and Recreation, Grain Sales, Hospitality Services, Land Development, Portable Storage , Support Services, Swine Production, and Turkey Production.
The Murphy family looks forward to continual productivity for the community in the upcoming years.
