Celebrating 20 Years of Murphy Family Ventures 🐷✨
The Murphy family was honored to be featured in the Summer issue of North Carolina Farm Life! In the article, Dell Murphy shares how Murphy Family Ventures began, the lessons he learned from his father, Wendell Murphy, and the family’s lasting impact on North Carolina’s pork industry.
As we celebrate 20 years, this story is a heartfelt reminder that our legacy isn’t just history—it’s alive and thriving today.
🌟 Wrapping up a summer well spent! 🌟
From networking at our Annual Intern Cookout at The River Lodge, to touring farms and learning the full swine production process (including how hog waste becomes renewable energy!), our 2025 interns made the most of every moment.
They closed out the season with presentations that wowed our team and left us confident in their bright futures. We’re so thankful they chose MFV for their summer experience—and we can’t wait to see where their journeys take them! 💼🐷
From Generation to Generation
This year’s State Farmers Market Largest Watermelon Contest was dedicated to the memory of longtime competitor Donald Murphy, who passed away earlier this year. Known for his passion and expertise in growing prize-winning watermelons, his legacy continues through his sons and great-grandson. Donald Murphy Jr., Production Manager at Murphy Family Farms with 29 years of service, carried on his father’s tradition by entering a 179.1-pound watermelon, earning second place. His grandson, Knox Basden, was honored with the inaugural ‘Donald Murphy Future Growers Award,’ ensuring the Murphy family’s love for growing continues for generations to come.

BEE & Wasp Saftey
How do we protect our team members from being stung by either Bees or Wasps?
The first item to check is the area where your team members will be working. Examples would be around shrubs, high grass, or buildings with overhangs. The next suggestion would be to arm your team members with a jet spray to ensure they have the tools to remove the hazard before it becomes a problem. The last item is to make sure that all vehicles and equipment that are sent out into the field or on the road have string swabs on board! As for the aftermath of a sting, please pay close attention to the attached trainer to ensure all team members can recognize the different medical issue levels that result from a sting. REMEMBER NOT EVERYONE REACTS THE SAME WAY TO A STING…BE ALERT AND MONITOR THAT PERSON!
